A Bathroom Renovation Does Not Need To Be stressful

As a licensed bathroom builder in Sydney, the one thing I hear more than anything else is: “We just want it done properly, the first time.” That’s the whole job, honestly. A bathroom that is built to budget, doesn’t leak, looks great, and holds up for the next decade. At Blue Rhino Plumbing we handle the full scope, from demolition and waterproofing through to tiling, fixtures, and final fit-off, so you’re not stitching together three different tradies and hoping it all lines up.

What does a bathroom renovation actually involve?

A great bathroom renovation starts with a great brief. Bring us your inspiration images, your wishlist, and your budget, that’s all we need to get started. We’ll work through the layout with you, help you understand where to spend and where to pull back, and lock in a plan before anything’s touched.
That’s how we quote and that’s how we build.
We work across Sydney’s north shore and surrounding suburbs — North Ryde, Ryde, Meadowbank, Epping, Marsfield, Macquarie Park, West Ryde, and beyond. Not sure if we cover you? Just ask.

If you’re renovating your family bathroom

A new bathroom changes how your home feels every single day. The chaotic school morning routine that actually runs on time because the layout works. The dated ensuite that finally reflects the home you’ve built around it. The tired family bathroom that becomes the reason buyers fall in love with the house. The spa-like retreat you’ve been putting off for years.

Whatever’s driving it, a growing family, an outdated design, preparing to sell, or just finally doing it for yourself — you deserve a bathroom that works as hard as you do. We’ve built all of it. And we know how to make it work for your space, your budget, and your life.

Bathroom Trends We Are Loving in 2026

  • Large-format stone-look porcelain: Makes a smaller bathroom feel significantly bigger and genuinely low maintenance
  • Fluted feature walls, evolved: Wider, chunkier profiles and scalloped shapes replacing the micro-flutes that look great in a showroom and collect dust in real life. They are impossible to keep clean!
  • Natural textures: Oak veneer vanities, stone-effect tiles, anything that feels considered rather than off-the-shelf. The best bathrooms in 2026 mix textures and finishes with intention
  • Brushed nickel tapware: Matte black has held strong but brushed nickel is the finish we’re specifying most right now and the finish last longer
  • Wall-hung vanities: Still the single most requested change we see, they clean up the floor visually and make any bathroom feel instantly larger
  • Rainfall shower heads with a separate handheld: Once a luxury spec, now pretty much standard in a quality renovation

The main budget drains When Renovating A Bathroom

Bathroom renovation costs vary too much to quote without seeing the job. Anyone giving you a firm price over the phone is guessing. We will do a through walk through with different options so you have the full picture!
Here’s what actually moves the number:

  • Plumbing relocations: Moving a shower, bath, or drain means cutting into concrete slabs or flooring and rerouting what’s behind the walls. This is the single biggest cost driver in any bathroom renovation. Keep the wet area where it is and the job stays predictable. Move it and the budget moves with it.
  • Wall-mounted taps: These look clean and they’re worth it in the right bathroom. But they need in-wall plumbing rough-ins and precise alignment before anything closes up. Vanity-mounted taps connect above the bench with flexible hoses. Simple. Wall-mounted is a different scope entirely.
  • Mosaic tiles: Vastly more cuts, vastly more grouting, and they demand a perfectly level surface. Tilers charge considerably more and they should. If you love the look, budget for it properly.
  • Frameless shower screens: Heavy-duty glass, high-end hardware, and perfectly plumb walls. Custom made-to-measure screens are a different price point to standard framed off-the-shelf units. Worth it in the right space, but go in with eyes open.
  • What’s always included: Going back to bare floors and walls, new waterproofing, new sheeting. That’s standard on every job.

What you can’t predict is what’s underneath: water damage in the structure, asbestos, framing that needs replacing. We find it, we tell you, we fix it before anything goes back over the top.

Where to spend and where to save

Keep the layout exactly as it is and you’ll save thousands on rerouting pipes and drainage. That’s the single best thing you can do if budget is tight.

Where to invest: Waterproofing, plumbing fixtures, cabinetry. If cheap pipe work fails or waterproofing is cut short, it costs exponentially more to fix down the track.

Where you can pull back: Tiles and tapware. Mid-range, standard options done well look great. Shopping around or waiting for sales on these won’t compromise the job.

Bathroom Renovation FAQS

Find answers to common questions about our plumbing services, pricing, and 24/7 availability across Sydney.

A standard family bathroom runs seven to fourteen working days once we’re on site — assuming the brief is locked in and materials are on hand before we start. What blows timelines out is decisions being made mid-job. Tile changes, fixture swaps, layout rethinks after demolition has started. We lock everything in before we touch a thing for exactly that reason.

No — but you’ll need a plan for the days you’re without the bathroom. For a single-bathroom home we try to sequence the work so you’re not without facilities overnight, but it depends on the scope. We’ll talk through the logistics before we start so there are no surprises.

This is actually one of the most important questions to ask any tradie before you sign anything, because without the right paperwork, you can have problems when you sell, make an insurance claim, or deal with strata.
At Blue Rhino you get three certificates on every full bathroom renovation:

  • Waterproofing Compliance Certificate — issued before tiling starts, confirming the wet area waterproofing meets AS 3740 and was applied by a licensed waterproofer. It details exactly what was waterproofed, which membrane was used, and the warranty terms.
  • Plumbing Certificate of Compliance — issued on completion, confirming all plumbing work meets the Plumbing Code of Australia. A copy goes to you and a copy goes to the regulator. If we’ve moved any drainage or fixtures, a Notice of Work is submitted before we start. If the sewer line is involved, a Sewer Service Diagram is required on top of that.
  • Gas Certificate of Compliance — issued after any gas work, confirming installation meets AS/NZS 5601 and NSW Fair Trading requirements. Required before a gas retailer will connect or reconnect the service.

Keep all three with your property records. You’ll need them when you sell, make an insurance claim, or deal with strata.
And here’s a simple test before you hire anyone: ask them upfront which certificates they’ll provide at the end of the job. If they hedge, change the subject, or can’t give you a straight answer, that tells you are dealing with a company that will not back the work.

Always. Every renovation we do gets new waterproofing and new sheeting — we never reuse what’s there regardless of how it looks. Waterproofing is the one stage you can’t cut corners on.

Waterproofing Compliance Certificate: is issued before tiling starts, confirming the wet area waterproofing meets AS 3740 and was applied by a licensed waterproofer. It details exactly what was waterproofed, which membrane was used, and the warranty terms.

Blue Rhino manages the full scope — demolition, waterproofing, sheeting, tiling, plumbing, and fixture fit-off. One point of contact, one timeline, one job. You don’t need to find and coordinate a separate tiler or plumber.
