Got a leaking or burst pipe and what to do

If you can see water where it shouldn’t be: dripping from your ceiling or wall, or there is water pooling on the kitchen floor.

Turn off your water at the water mains immediately. The stopcock is usually located near your water meter, on the street side of your property boundary or inside near the front of the house.
Turning it off stops the flow and limits the water damage while you wait for us.
If water is near any electrical fittings, switches, or appliances, turn off the power at the switchboard as well.

Slow Leaks or a cracked pipe

If you’re noticing damp patches, discolouration, or a musty smell inside your home — or your water bill has suddenly crept up, or there are unexplained muddy patches appearing in the garden, it’s not a plumbing emergency, but it’s not something to leave either. A slow leak inside a wall or floor is doing damage you can’t see, and the longer it’s left, the more it costs to fix.
Either way, we’re Sydney-based and on call.
Tell us what’s happening and we’ll get someone to you fast.

We Repair or replace All Pipe Types

Copper, PVC, PEX, galvanised steel, and poly pipe, across residential homes, apartments, and commercial properties throughout Sydney.

What We’ll Do When We Arrive

We carry the equipment and parts to handle most burst and leaking pipe situations on the spot. Depending on what we find, that could mean:

  • Locating the source of the leak: not always as obvious as it looks, particularly with pipes inside walls or under slabs.
  • Emergency repair or full pipe replacement: for a clean burst we can often repair the section on the same visit. Where the pipe has deteriorated badly or the damage is more extensive, we’ll give you an honest assessment and get the work done properly.
  • Thermal imaging and leak detection: for leaks that aren’t visible, we use thermal imaging cameras and acoustic detection equipment to pinpoint exactly where the problem is without unnecessary cutting or excavation.
  • Temporary containment:if a permanent repair needs to wait on parts or access, we’ll make the situation safe and water-tight in the meantime so you’re not sitting with an ongoing problem overnight.
  • Water damage assessment: we’ll help you understand the extent of what’s happened so you have what you need if an insurance claim is involved.

Why Pipes Burst or Crack and How to Reduce the Risk

This is for homeowners who want to understand what caused the problem and what can be done to prevent it happening again.
If you’re in the middle of an emergency, call us first and come back to this later.

Age and material deterioration

Galvanised steel pipes, common in Sydney homes built before the 1980s, corrode from the inside out over decades. By the time a visible leak appears, the pipe has often been deteriorating for years. Copper pipes last longer but are not immune — aggressive water chemistry, soil conditions, and age all take their toll. If your home still has original pipework from the 70s or earlier, a proactive assessment is worth considering.

High water pressure

Sydney’s mains water pressure can exceed what residential pipework is designed to handle comfortably, particularly on properties lower in the network. Sustained high pressure stresses pipe joints, fittings, and flexible hoses — the latter being a common cause of sudden, serious flooding inside homes. A pressure-limiting valve (PLV) installed at the mains keeps pressure within safe range throughout your home and is one of the most cost-effective protective measures available.

Flexible braided hoses

The flexible hoses connecting toilets, basins, and washing machines to the wall are among the most common sources of sudden flooding in Australian homes. Most have a recommended service life of ten years — many are left in place far longer. They fail without warning and can discharge a significant volume of water in a short time. Replacing aged flexible hoses across your home is a small cost compared to the damage a failed one causes.

Tree root intrusion

Sydney’s older suburbs are full of established trees whose root systems are actively seeking moisture. Roots exploit the smallest crack or joint in underground pipes and, over time, cause blockages and structural damage. If you’re experiencing recurring slow drains or gurgling in multiple fixtures, root intrusion is worth investigating before it becomes a burst.

Poor installation or previous repair work

Not all plumbing work is done to the same standard. Fittings that weren’t properly seated, pipe that was undersized for the application, or a patch repair that was never meant to be permanent — these all create weak points that eventually fail. If you’ve bought an older home and haven’t had the plumbing assessed, it’s worth knowing what you’re working with.

Preventing Damage to Pipes

Have your water pressure tested?
It’s a quick check that can reveal an elevated risk most homeowners don’t know they have.

Replace flexible hoses on a schedule rather than waiting for them to fail. Every ten years is the general guideline, or sooner if you can see any sign of corrosion, kinking, or swelling at the fittings.

If your home has original galvanised or steel pipework, ask us about a condition assessment. Repiping an entire home sounds significant, but it’s often more manageable than people expect — and far less disruptive than dealing with repeated failures and water damage.

Know where your water mains shutoff is and make sure everyone in your household knows too. In an emergency, those first few minutes matter.

Pipe Repair FAQS

Find answers to common questions about our plumbing services, pricing, and 24/7 availability across Sydney.

We’re Sydney-local and on call. Call us and we can step you through what to do with a burst pipe emergency. We can then give you an ETA as response times vary depending on where you are and what else is on, but we treat burst pipes as the emergency they are.

A slow leak inside a wall or under a floor is doing damage you can’t see. Mould can establish within 24 to 48 hours in a wet cavity, and prolonged moisture causes timber to rot and concrete to deteriorate. Small leaks that get left tend to become expensive ones.

It will depend on the policy you have. Most home and contents policies cover sudden and accidental water damage from a burst pipe. Gradual leaks that have been left unattended are often excluded. We can provide documentation of our findings and the work completed to support your claim.

Turning off the mains is the right first step and it stops further damage. But the pipe still needs to be assessed and repaired before your water supply can be restored. Give us a call and we’ll get it sorted.

We will find where it is leaking from, it may need a new clamp, the pipe may need to be replaced or pipe relining can be a great solution for small cracks in a hard to reach pipe
