Clean, Filtered Water from Every Tap in Your Sydney Home

Most Sydney households don’t think twice about the water coming out of their taps — but tap water can carry chlorine, sediment, heavy metals, and other contaminants that affect the taste, smell, and long-term quality of the water your family drinks, cooks with, and bathes in. A whole house water filtration system changes that. One installation. Every tap, shower, and appliance in your home delivering cleaner, better-tasting water from that day forward.

What Is a Whole House Water Filtration System?

Unlike a single bench-top filter or an under-sink unit that only treats one tap, a whole house system connects directly to your main water supply where it enters the property. That means every outlet in your home, kitchen, bathroom, laundry, outdoor taps, receives filtered water automatically, with no cartridges to swap under a sink or jugs to refill on the bench.

Why Sydney Homeowners Are Making the Switch

Sydney’s water is treated with chlorine and chloramines to make it safe for drinking. That treatment works — but it also leaves behind a taste and smell that many people find unpleasant, and it doesn’t address everything that can enter the water between the treatment plant and your tap. Older pipes, sediment in the mains, and chemical by-products all play a role.

A whole house filtration system addresses this at the source — before the water reaches any fixture in your home.

  • Better tasting drinking water Chlorine and its by-products are among the most noticeable things a good filtration system removes. The difference in taste is usually immediate and obvious, especially in your morning coffee or a cold glass of water straight from the tap.
  • Softer skin and hair Chlorinated water strips natural oils from skin and hair. Many people who switch to filtered water notice their skin feels less dry and their hair more manageable — without changing anything else in their routine.
  • Protection for your appliances and plumbing Sediment and mineral build-up are slow but steady enemies of hot water systems, dishwashers, washing machines, and plumbing fittings. Filtered water reduces the load on these appliances and can extend their working life considerably.
  • Safer water for cooking When you’re boiling pasta, steaming vegetables, or making stock, filtered water means you’re not inadvertently concentrating chlorine or other chemicals through the cooking process.
  • Peace of mind for your whole family For families with young children, elderly relatives, or anyone with sensitivities, knowing that every tap in the house delivers consistently clean water removes a lot of uncertainty.

What to Expect from the Installation

A whole house filtration system is typically installed on the cold water main near your water meter or where the supply enters the house. The process is straightforward for most Sydney homes and is usually completed in a couple of hours. You’ll have access to filtered water from every tap the same day.
The right system for your home depends on a few things — the size of your household, your water pressure, whether you’re on mains or tank water, and what you most want to address. We’ll help you work through that before recommending anything.

Puretec Whole House Filtration Systems

Puretec is one of Australia’s most trusted names in residential water filtration, and for good reason. Their whole house systems are designed specifically for Australian water conditions — including Sydney’s chloraminated supply — and are built to last in the Australian climate.

Puretec offers a range of whole house systems to suit different home sizes and water quality concerns:

  • Hybrid Series Puretec’s most popular whole house range, combining sediment filtration with carbon block technology to reduce chlorine, chloramines, taste, odour, and particulate matter. Available in a range of flow rates to suit everything from a small apartment to a large family home.
  • Tripla Series A three-stage system offering enhanced filtration for homes that want an extra level of protection. Sediment pre-filtration is followed by carbon filtration and a final polishing stage — ideal for households on tank water or older properties with ageing pipes.
  • UV Protection Systems For homes on tank water or rainwater, Puretec’s UV range adds a disinfection stage that eliminates bacteria and viruses without adding any chemicals to the water. Often combined with a Hybrid or Tripla system for complete treatment.
  • Softrol Series Designed for homes with hard water issues, the Softrol range addresses calcium and magnesium build-up that causes limescale on fixtures, glassware, and inside appliances. Particularly relevant in parts of Western and South-West Sydney.

All Puretec systems use replaceable filter cartridges, and most cartridges need changing once every six to twelve months depending on your usage and local water quality, a simple maintenance task that keeps your system performing at its best year-round.

Home Filtration FAQS

Find answers to common questions about our plumbing services, pricing, and 24/7 availability across Sydney.

Most whole house cartridges need changing every six to twelve months. Puretec systems make this straightforward — there’s no plumber required for a routine cartridge swap.

A correctly sized system has minimal impact on pressure. Choosing the right flow rate for your home is part of the installation process — an undersized system is the most common cause of pressure issues, and it’s easily avoided.

Whole house systems are installed on the cold water main. Your hot water system then draws from that filtered supply, so yes — your hot water is filtered too.

Some under-sink filters do a reasonable job of improving the taste of your drinking water — but they only treat a single tap, and the lower-cost units come with real risks that don’t get talked about enough. Cheap filter housings can crack or fail under mains water pressure, and when they do, the leak is inside your cabinet — often unnoticed until there’s significant water damage to the cabinetry, flooring, or the subfloor beneath. A quality whole house system installed correctly on the main supply eliminates that risk entirely, treats every tap in the home, and is built to handle the pressure it’s put under every day.

An overdue cartridge stops filtering effectively and can become a source of contamination rather than protection. Setting a reminder every six months is the easiest way to stay on top of it.
